Baby It's You: Blogger Night | Show Review | Discount Ticket Code

There's a new musical in town that's garnering a lot of buzz.
Baby It's You, which is currently in previews and officially opens on April 27, tells the little known true story of Florence Greenberg. Eager to be more than just a homemaker, Greenberg stepped out on a limb and did the unthinkable for a 1950's housewife: started her very own record label - and changed the landscape of the music industry forever.
I caught a performance of Baby It's You earlier this week when they hosted a lovely bloggers night.

The night started with a one hour pre-show cocktail reception at the ultra swanky Library Bar above the bustling lobby of The Paramount Hotel in Time Square. I nibbled on spring rolls and sipped on my favorite libation, Grey Goose and cranberry, while chatting up other bloggers.

The moment you sit in your seat and the curtain rises, you're transported back in time to when doo-wop and pop ruled the airwaves and teenagers singing songs about teenagers was a surefire hit.
Tony Award winner Beth Leavel is on fire as pioneering music mogul Greenberg, the woman who not only discovered The Shirelles (the precursor to The Supremes) but also catapulted them to fame, making The Shirelles the first female group to ever earn a number one single.
Mired by the ever-changing music business, the strain her choices put on her marriage and family and her hush-hush romance with legendary songwriter Luther Dixon, Leavel plays Greenberg with straight-faced humor and a firm hand. She's pulled in many directions and forced to wear many hats - mother, wife, lover, boss - and though it's clear she's liable to crack at any given moment, she maintains her stature as a tough business woman.
Although Leavel leads the show, the musical numbers take center stage in this fun, frothy confection full of bold how-did-they-do-that costume changes and dead-on renditions of some of the most popular musical acts in American history. You can't help but to sing along to the songs you loved listening to as a child or grew up listening to your parents play.
Baby It's You, Broadway's newest blast from the past, is sure to be a crowd favorite this season as it sings its way into your heart and reminds you that anything is possible.
